Shanghai Pork Chop Noodles 上海豬排麵

Shanghai, Pork Chop, Noodles, recipe, chinese, soup noodle, 上海, 豬排麵, traditional

Folks nowadays are so into instant noodles...I see families at the supermarket fill up their shopping carts with packets after packets of instant noodles!  And don't get me wrong, we love instant noodles as much as the next guy.  (My favorite flavor is the seafood curry!)

But let's go back in time a bit, and consider, what came before instant noodles?  Well, I imagine it would be some like this...a quick and yummilicious bowl of soft slurpable noodles that fills you up with tasty crisp protein as well as hot and nourishing soup.

This old classic noodle dish, the traditional Shanghai Pork Chop Noodles 上海豬排麵, is not only easy to make but yummy and satisfying to the tum as well!

Sweet and Sour Pork Chop Onion 糖醋豬排洋蔥

Sweet and Sour, Pork Chop, Onion, chinese, recipe, pork, pork butt, pork steak, 糖醋, 豬排, 洋蔥

This easy to make Sweet and Sour Pork Chop Onion, or 糖醋豬排洋蔥 is a great all in one dinner type of dish where you've got your delicious meat, a heap o' tasty vegetables, tangy sauce and rice all in one!

This was something my 老公 whipped up the other day in the kitchen after we discovered some really nice pork chops.  It's an easy all in one dish.  Nothing like saving some time in the kitchen, especially during this heat wave we've been having in Hong Kong.  (Meltingly hot...uck!)  We've almost lost our appetites from the unrelenting heat and, well, there's nothing like a tangy sauced dish to perk up your tastebuds and get you hungry again!

Chinese Baked Pork Chop Rice 焗豬扒飯

焗豬扒飯, classic, cantonese, chinese, recipe, hong kong, cha chaan teng, baked pork chop rice,

One of the best "if you are really starving and in need of 'comfort food'" food ever.  Hummm...  Did that make any sense? Well, you know what I mean!  Or, to be absolutely correct, you will know what I mean after you try this Chinese Baked Pork Chop Rice, or 焗豬扒飯.

This is a local Hong Kong classic, an absolute standard at all the cha chaan teng, or 茶餐廳 in Hong Kong.  Cha chaan teng is the name for the local style dinners/cafes that dot the culinary landscape of Hong Kong.  Small affordable chinese food eateries that serve up fast, greasy food in big portions; interiors done up with lots of fluorescent lighting and rows of small eating booths.  A cha chaan teng has to have a decent Chinese Baked Pork Chop dish to serve to the hungry masses if it wants to be taken seriously as an eatery!
