Taiwan Braised Beef Noodles 台灣紅燒牛肉麵

chinese, recipe, Taiwan Braised Beef Noodles, taiwanese, 台灣, 紅燒牛肉麵, noodle

Yum, yum, yummy! This yummilicious bowl of noodles of worldwide fame, the Taiwan Braised Beef Noodles 台灣紅燒牛肉麵, is filled with comforting chunks of meltingly tender beef and tendon and just cooked noodles all nestled in a deliciously aromatic spiced beef soup.

This noodle dish first appeared in Taiwan not too long ago, sometime after WWII when the Kuomintang 國民黨 relocated to Taiwan, bringing with them many of their own regional Chinese food influences.  Since then this delicious beef noodle has become a firm classic of Chinese cuisine.  So delicious and addictive and best of all easy to make right at home!

Silver Pin Soup Noodles with Roasted Duck and Mushrooms 火鴨冬菇銀針粉

火鴨, 燒鴨, 老鼠粉, 銀針粉, 冬菇, Silver Pin Soup Noodles, Roasted Duck, Mushrooms, chinese, noodle, recipe, rat tail noodle, silver needle noodle, short rice noodle

I'm so happy to share this warming and deliciously cheerful soup noodle dish, perfect to take the chill off these wind swept autumn days.  There's nothing like a hot bowl of soup noodles to fill and warm your tummy when the weather turns cool.

This tasty traditional Hakka 客家 soup noodle dish used to be found at street corner shops and small dai pai dongs 大排檔, but as of late has all but disappeared.  Which is a shame because it's really quite yummilicious and such a comfort to eat, slipping down the throat easily and tastily, noodles topped generously with a bit of this and that, a savory and homey feast of tastes and textures all tenderly nestled in tasty hot soup.  But never fear, it's quite easy to make a bowl of these Silver Pin Soup Noodles with Roasted Duck and Mushrooms 火鴨冬菇銀針粉  at home!

Hong Kong Noodle Dishes - Food Toys

Bubble Toys, food toys, hong kong, noodles, traditional, Fish Slices, Fish Ball Noodles, 魚片魚蛋麵

I got hooked on these bubble toys when our baby was just walking and one of our favorite outings was going for a short walk around the neighborhood in the evenings when the usually chaotically traffic choked streets got quieter.  These bubble toy dispensers have always been around in Hong Kong dropping forth all sorts of cool toys packaged inside the 'bubble' and are usually located at the local convenience stores or in stores that only specialize in bubble toys.

It was just that I never really took much notice of them before.  At first it was just a diversion for the baby, something to interest her and have fun together with.  But then I discovered that they also dispensed really cool food toys and from that moment on I secretly became just as obsessed with them as my little girl and nowadays we argue over who gets to choose the machine we buy from that day.

Hong Kong Late Night Snack 食宵夜

Hong Kong, 食宵夜, Late Night Snack
Published: 2011-10-12
In Hong Kong there are the usual standard three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner; and then there is the special Hong Kong style forth meal: late night snack or 食宵夜.  You don't have to 食宵夜 but the opportunity and the luxury is always there.

So there we were one late, late night, hungry as wolves for some reason and looking for some good hot satisfying food.  We ended up at our local late night Hong Kong style roasted meats eatery, or 燒味舖, which sells the classic Cantonese roasted meats atop of rice or noodles or a la carte.  This little eatery is open until 4 am every night, proving the 'Oh So Seriousness' of the Hong Kong people towards 食宵夜.
