By Ellen L. Published: 2013-11-07One never quite believes how much your own child can "love, love, love" candies, as my little daughter puts it. With tender mother's concern you scheme that you will specially prepare for your kid all kinds of delicious nibbles and treats that will teach them to love candy less. Which of course doesn't really work as well as you had hoped cuz your kid still "loves, loves, loves" candies. So with that humble pie lesson in mind I have been thinking that I can perhaps make candy that is a bit healthier than the candy you buy. And so, with my little girl's help, we made these surprisingly delicious real fruit jelly candies. She really loved the fact that she was making candies!
These real fruit jelly candies took only about 10-15 minutes to make. A bit more on our part, what with my little girl helping (that always takes longer) and because we had delegated our only pourable beaker thingy to use in our fish tank forever. It turned out to be a pain to pour the fruit jelly mix into the silicone molds from a ladle. Once in the molds, it was off to the fridge for a while and then voila!: delicious fruit jelly candy. My little girl was quite eager to eat them all up in one go but we finally settled on a good number of them each day. Dispensed as deserved treats, as all candy should be. This is a great fun food to make with a kid!
Here is my stack of silicone molds . I went mad for a bit and bought a whole bunch before I knew what I was going to do with them. Kitchen stuff is always like that though. You can never have enough, eh? But now I find them to be more and more useful in different projects that we have going on. We have even used them when playing with our homemade play dough!
